In 1941, Krupp started the development of a new heavy tank to succeed the Tiger II (King Tiger). The tank was to be "so strongly armoured that no known enemy anti-tank gun could penetrate". The tank was to be armed with 150mm KwK 44 L/38. It would weight no more than 90 tons and had a top speed of 35 km/hr. Many alternative designs were considered from Feb to May 1942. The Löwe was to use the standard parts of the Tiger II to simplify production. This CGD 1:144 Wehrmacht '46 German Pz.Kpfw. VII Löwe (Lion) is based on Löwe drawing no. W 1663 of 23 April 1942 plus a bit of enhancement to bring it to production stage. The Specification would be:
